Open Access and Licensing
Neural Prosody, LLC · Applies to all journals published under the Neural Prosody imprint
All content published by Neural Prosody is immediately and permanently open access upon publication.
Article processing charges (APCs) apply to authors. Discretionary waivers are available. Authors retain copyright. All articles are published under CC BY 4.0.
Open Access Commitment
Neural Prosody, LLC is a fully open access publisher. Every article published across all Neural Prosody journals is made immediately and permanently available to any reader, anywhere in the world, without subscription, registration, or payment of any kind. Open access applies unconditionally to all published content and is not contingent on APC payment or any other condition.
Article processing charges (APCs) apply to authors accepted for publication in Neural Prosody journals. APCs support the costs of peer review administration, production, DOI registration, digital preservation, and open access infrastructure. APC amounts are published on each journal’s website. Neural Prosody does not charge submission fees, review fees, or any other charges beyond the APC.
APC waivers are available on a case-by-case basis at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief. Authors who lack institutional or grant funding to cover the APC are encouraged to contact the editorial office prior to submission to discuss their circumstances. Waiver requests are evaluated independently of manuscript review; APC status does not influence editorial decisions on acceptance or rejection.
Neural Prosody will not introduce subscription fees, paywalls, or embargoes on published content. Reader access to all published articles is and will remain permanently free.
Licensing
Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)
All articles published in Neural Prosody journals are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). This license permits any person to copy, distribute, transmit, adapt, and build upon the work—including for commercial purposes—provided that appropriate credit is given to the original authors and publication, a link to the license is provided, and any changes made are indicated.
CC BY 4.0 is the most permissive of the Creative Commons licenses and is the standard recommended by major open access initiatives including Plan S, the Budapest Open Access Initiative, and the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). It maximizes the reach and reusability of published research.
What CC BY 4.0 does not permit
CC BY 4.0 does not grant rights to claim authorship of a work one did not write, to remove or obscure attribution, or to use the work in a way that implies endorsement by the original authors or Neural Prosody. The license does not affect any rights that exist independently of copyright, including rights of participants whose data appear in the research.
License display
The CC BY 4.0 license notice is displayed prominently on every published article, including in article metadata supplied to indexing services, DOI registries, and discovery platforms. Authors confirm their acceptance of the CC BY 4.0 license terms at the time of submission.
Copyright
Authors retain full copyright in their work. Neural Prosody does not require copyright transfer as a condition of publication. By submitting a manuscript to a Neural Prosody journal, authors grant Neural Prosody, LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to publish, distribute, reproduce, and archive the article in all formats and media, and to supply the article and its metadata to indexing services, preservation networks, and discovery platforms, for as long as Neural Prosody publishes the journal.
This license does not limit the author’s right to reuse, republish, or distribute their own work. Authors may:
Post the accepted manuscript or published version to any preprint server, institutional repository, or personal website at any time, before or after publication
Include the published article in a thesis, dissertation, or book, provided the original publication in a Neural Prosody journal is acknowledged
Share the published article with colleagues, students, or the public through any channel
Reuse figures, tables, or text from their own published article in subsequent works, provided the original publication is cited
| Under CC BY 4.0, anyone may… | Provided they… |
| Read, download, and save the article | Attribute the work to the original authors |
| Share and redistribute the article in any format or medium | Link to the original publication and license |
| Adapt, transform, or build upon the article | Indicate what changes were made |
| Use the article for commercial purposes | Do not suggest the authors or publisher endorse the new use |
| Include the article in datasets, repositories, or aggregations | Preserve the original attribution and license terms |
No embargo period applies.
Authors may share the published version of their article immediately upon publication. Neural Prosody does not impose any embargo on author self-archiving or repository deposit.
Digital Object Identifiers and Metadata
CrossRef DOI registration
All articles published in Neural Prosody journals are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) registered through CrossRef. DOIs are assigned upon acceptance and activated upon publication. The DOI provides a permanent, stable link to the published article and is included in all article metadata and citations.
DataCite and research data
Neural Prosody requires authors to register their research datasets with DataCite and to provide the resulting DOI in the manuscript’s Data Availability Statement. DataCite registration is free of charge and may be completed through any DataCite member repository, including OSF, Zenodo, and Figshare, which handle DOI registration automatically upon deposit.
Where a dataset DOI is pending at the time of manuscript submission, authors should indicate this in the Data Availability Statement and provide the DOI upon assignment, prior to final acceptance. Articles will not be published without a confirmed dataset DOI unless data sharing is precluded by ethical or legal constraints, as described in the Author Guidelines.
DataCite DOI registration is free through OSF, Zenodo, and Figshare.
Authors do not need a paid account to register a dataset DOI. Deposit your data to any of these platforms and the DOI is assigned automatically. Include the DOI in your Data Availability Statement before final submission.
Metadata standards
Neural Prosody supplies structured metadata for all published articles to CrossRef, DataCite, and applicable indexing services. Metadata includes author names and ORCIDs (where provided), title, abstract, keywords, license, funding information, and links to associated datasets and supplementary materials. Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID identifier at submission to ensure accurate attribution across platforms.
Indexing and Discoverability
Neural Prosody is committed to maximizing the discoverability of published research. The Publisher pursues registration with major indexing services and open access directories as the journal portfolio develops. Current and planned indexing targets include:
| Service | Status and notes |
|---|---|
| CrossRef | Active — all articles assigned CrossRef DOIs upon publication” |
| DataCite | Required for all research datasets associated with published articles; authors register datasets directly” |
| DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) | Application pending — DOAJ listing requires a minimum publication history; NP will apply upon meeting eligibility criteria” |
| PubMed Central | Planned — eligibility requires ISSN assignment and publication record; NP will apply when eligible” |
| PsycINFO | Planned — APA database; application will be submitted following ISSN assignment and initial publication |
| Google Scholar | Automatic — articles are indexed by Google Scholar via OJS metadata |
Indexing status is updated on this page as applications are submitted and decisions received. Authors with questions about the indexing status of a specific journal may contact the editorial office.
Digital Preservation
Neural Prosody is committed to the long-term preservation and permanent accessibility of all published content. The Publisher participates in the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), which provides decentralized, distributed preservation of OJS journal content through the LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe) protocol. Preservation is automatic and continuous for all content published through the OJS platform.
Preserved content is maintained in geographically distributed nodes operated by PKP network members. In the event that Neural Prosody ceases publication or the primary OJS instance becomes unavailable, preserved content remains accessible through the PKP PN network. Authors can be confident that their published work will remain permanently accessible regardless of the future operational status of the Publisher.
Neural Prosody will evaluate participation in additional preservation networks, including Portico and LOCKSS direct membership, as the journal portfolio grows. Any additions to the preservation infrastructure will be reflected in an update to this policy.
Preprints
Neural Prosody welcomes submissions of manuscripts that have been previously posted as preprints on recognized preprint servers, including PsyArXiv, OSF Preprints, bioRxiv, medRxiv, SSRN, and equivalent disciplinary repositories. Prior posting as a preprint does not constitute prior publication and does not disqualify a manuscript from submission.
Authors who have posted a preprint must disclose this at the time of submission, providing the preprint server name and URL. Upon acceptance, authors are encouraged to update the preprint record to link to the published version and to note that the article has been peer reviewed and published in H0 Journal.
Neural Prosody does not require authors to remove preprints upon publication. Authors may maintain the preprint in its original or updated form on any preprint server, subject to the terms of the CC BY 4.0 license under which the published version is released.
